Study Times

  • The qualifications are generally divided into 3 units; Units 1 & 2 are assessed by a written examination,  the third by a practical project.
  • Study times are two separate five day blocks approx 80 hours,  with 1 day for examinations
  • Approximately 130 hours of study is required, including private study and background reading

NEBOSH General Certificate

The NEBOSH Certificate is divided into three units, the first two are assessed by written examination. The third by a practical exam.


Unit NGC1: 

Management of Health and Safety

Syllabus:

  • Foundations in Health and Safety
  • H&S Management Systems 1 - Plan
  • H&S Management Systems 2 - Do
  • H&S  Management Systems 3 - Check
  • H&S  Management Systems 4 - Act


Assessment:

Taught over five days, with the option of a NEBOSH General Certificate revision course.


Assessed by a two-hour written exam consisting of ten 'short-answer' compulsory questions and one 'long-answer' compulsory question. Papers are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.


Unit GC2: 

Controlling Workplace Hazards

Syllabus:

  • Workplace Hazards and Risk Control
  • Transport Hazards and Risk Control
  • Musculoskeletal Hazards and Risk Control
  • Work Equipment Hazards and Risk Control
  • Electrical Safety
  • Fire Safety
  • Chemical and Biological Health Hazards and Risk Control
  • Physical and Psychological Health Hazards and Risk Control

Assessment:

Taught over five days. Assessed by a two-hour written exam consisting of ten 'short-answer' eight mark compulsory questions and one 'long-answer' twenty mark compulsory question. Papers are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH. The pass standard for each paper is set at 45%.


Unit NGC3: 

Workplace-Based Practical Assessment


A two hour practical assessment carried out in your workplace no later than two weeks after sitting your final NEBOSH exam. The practical examination is internally assessed by the programme organiser and externally moderated by NEBOSH. Candidates must achieve 60% to pass.Candidates will be awarded a unit certificate for each unit passed. When candidates have been awarded a Unit Certificate in all three units the marks will be added together and a final grade is awarded as follows:

  • Pass 150 – 179 marks
  • Credit 180 – 209 marks
  • Distinction 210 marks or more


Once a candidate has successfully completed all three units the overall qualification parchment will be issued.

You must complete all units within 5 years to achieve the full NEBOSH General Certificate qualification.


NEBOSH Construction Certificate

The NEBOSH Construction Certificate is divided into three units, each of which is assessed separately. The first is Unit NGC1 from the NEBOSH National General Certificate, and it is vital that delegates first complete this before moving on to Units CC1 and CC2, outlined below.


Unit CC1: 

Managing and Controlling Hazards in Construction Activities

Syllabus:

This unit is specific to the NEBOSH Construction Certificate. It is taught over three days and covers the following 12 topics:


  • Construction law and management
  • Construction site hazards and controls
  • Vehicles and plant movement
  • Musculoskeletal hazards and controls
  • Work equipment
  • Electrical safety
  • Fire safety
  • Chemical and biological health
  • Physical and psychological health
  • Working at height
  • Excavation work and confined spaces
  • Demolition and deconstruction


Assessment:

Two-hour written exam consisting of 10 'short-answer' compulsory questions and one 'long-answer' compulsory question. Papers are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH. Candidates are invited to attend one of RoSPA's superb health and safety revision courses, which are tailored specifically to help you learn how to pass the NEBOSH exams.


Unit CC2: 

Construction health and safety practical application


Work based practical assessment carried out in your workplace no later than two weeks after sitting your final NEBOSH exams. It is assessed by the programme organiser and externally moderated by NEBOSH. Candidates have the option to attend a separate revision course, packed full of NEBOSH exam tips.

NEBOSH Fire Certificate

The NEBOSH Fire Certificate qualification is divided into 3 units (NGC1, FC1 and FC2), each of which is assessed separately: NGC1from your General Certificate can be used to convert to the Fire Certificate


Unit NGC1: 

Management of Health and Safety

Syllabus:


  • Foundations in Health and Safety
  • H&S Management Systems 1 - Plan
  • H&S Management Systems 2 - Do
  • H&S  Management Systems 3 - Check
  • H&S  Management Systems 4 - Act


Assessment:

Taught over 4 days, over the course of which delegates will be set 1 to 1.5 hours homework for three nights.


Unit FC1: 

Fire and Safety and Risk Management

Syllabus:


  • Managing Fire Safety
  • Principles of Fire and Explosion
  • Causes and Prevention of Fire
  • Fire Protection in Buildings
  • Safety of People in the Event of a Fire
  • Fire Risk Assessment


Assessment:

Assessed by a two-hour written exam consisting of ten 'short-answer' compulsory questions and one 'long-answer' compulsory question. Papers are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.


Unit FC2: 

Fire Safety Practical Application

Syllabus:

  • Fire Safety Practical Application. 

A two-hour practical assessment carried out in your workplace no later than two weeks after sitting your final NEBOSH exam. 


The practical examination is internally assessed by the Marble Training and externally moderated by NEBOSH.You must complete all units within 5 years to achieve the full NEBOSH Fire Certificate qualification.
