CITB SMSTS Course

What is the SMSTS Course?

The SMSTS is part of the CITB Site Safety Plus Training Scheme, and Marble Training are an Approved CITB Training Centre.


This is a 5 day course which can be completed in 1 week or spread across different dates.


Throughout the course the trainer will guide you through each subject, provide revision materials and support you through any tasks required to complete the course.


Once the course is completed you will be issued a CITB official SMSTS certificate.

What's Included?

Due to Covid all CITB courses will be delivered live using Zoom, meaning you can attend the course online from home or the office.


You can book your place on a course below or scroll down for more course information.


The price includes the live course delivered by a trainer, all learning materials, CITB Course registration and Certificate. 


You will need access to a device (laptop, desktop, phone or tablet) with video and camera capability, this is so you can see, speak and communicate with the trainer throughout each day. 


The support team will send across everything you need to join the course. Course starts at 08:30am each day.

How does an online course with a trainer work?

Our CITB approved trainers deliver the course live using zoom. This means at the push of a button you can join our online classroom from your home or office. We send you the link in your booking confirmation, and on the day of the course you simply click to join. This is tried, tested, safe and secure.

What device do I need?

You can attend the course using a smart phone, laptop, tablet or desktop computer. You just need internet connection and a quiet room in your home or office. More information on devices is provided in your course confirmation email.

Will I be able to speak to the trainer and ask questions?

Everyone on the course can see and hear each other. This means you can ask as many questions as you like and hear what other delegates on the course have to say.

Is everything else the same?

Yes. The SMSTS courses follow the exact same format as the classroom and is CITB approved.

What do I get?

Results are provided instantly at the end of your course, and you will then receive your certificate from the CITB. This is valid for 5 years.

Course Information

CITB SMSTS Course Online - CITB Site Manager Safety Training Scheme Online

As a result of the lockdown, we’re now offering both the SMSTS and SMSTS Refresher courses as online courses via Zoom. Participants will receive video training from a qualified trainer and cover the same topics as the classroom course. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive your CITB certificate.


Who is the SMSTS online course for?

The SMSTS courses are for project managers, site managers and supervisors, business owners and clients. Delegates will gain an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues on construction sites. If you already have a SMSTS certificate but it is expiring then you should look to complete the 2 day SMSTS Refresher.


SMSTS Course Duration?  

The Site Manager Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) can be delivered online or in the classroom. The duration for the course in either format is 5 days.

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations
  • Risk assessments/method statements
  • Recent changes in accepted working practices
  • Behavioural safety
  • Management of occupational health
  • Electricity

  • Confined spaces.


How is the SMSTS course assessed?

The Site Manager Safety Training Scheme course will be assessed via ongoing tutor assessment through interactions, tasks and activities. There is also a multiple choice test at the end of the last day.

Site Manager Safety Training Scheme Refresher Course (SMSTS-R)

Who is the SMSTS Refresher course for?

You are eligible to take the refresher course if you have previously passed the Site Manager Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS). Your certificate must be in date at the time of the course.


What is the SMSTS Refresher course content?

  • The current focus of the Health and Safety Executive’s attention
  • Risk assessment and method statements
  • Construction Site Health, Safety and Welfare
  • Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR)
  • Behavioural safety
  • Occupational health
  • Overview and changes to the current legislation affecting construction

SMSTS Refresher Course Duration:

The Site Manager Safety Training Scheme Refresher course is completed over 2 days. You will have professional guidance from highly qualified and experienced instructors.


SMSTS Course and SMSTS Refresher Course costs:

The five day SSSTS Course is £495 + VAT. The two day SMSTS Refresher Course is £295 + VAT.
